Characteristics: Aggressive form; if left untreated, it can quickly metastasize to other organs.
Risk Factors: Family history, a high number of moles, and severe sun exposure or sunburns during childhood.
White / Non-Melanoma Skin Cancer
Characteristics: Most common form; typically grows only locally.
Risk Factors: Cumulative, lifelong UV exposure. Individuals with fair skin (Skin Type I) and those who work outdoors are at particularly high risk.

That is why our practice places the highest priority on thorough and state-of-the-art preventive care.
Statutory Skin Cancer Screening (Covered by Public Health Insurance)
Starting at age 35, German statutory health insurance covers the cost of a routine skin cancer screening every two years. During this examination, we systematically check your entire skin surface for suspicious changes.
Enhanced Screening: Digital Video Dermoscopy
To offer you even greater diagnostic certainty, we utilize digital video dermoscopy (computer-assisted video documentation). This advanced method is strongly recommended by dermatological professional societies:
High-Resolution Detail Analysis: We digitally capture suspicious moles and evaluate them under high magnification.
Seamless Long-Term Tracking: During follow-up examinations, we compare new images directly with your baseline records. This allows us to detect even subtle dynamic changes in a mole at an early stage.
Avoiding Unnecessary Procedures: Precise digital monitoring helps us reliably classify benign skin lesions, often sparing you unnecessary biopsies or excisions.
Because this state-of-the-art diagnostic tool provides significant medical value but is not included in the standard benefit catalog of statutory health insurance, we offer it as an out-of-pocket medical service (IGeL).
Special Recommendation for High-Risk Patients
For patients with an increased risk of melanoma—such as those with numerous moles, very fair skin, or a family history of skin cancer—dermatological societies recommend an annual skin cancer screening starting at age 18 (as a self-pay service / IGeL).
